The Shady student
Jack settled into school as the History teacher started to talk.
“In the protracted summer of the year 1588, after numerous years of meticulous preparation, logistical arrangement, and extensive diplomatic manoeuvring, the Spanish Armada—comprising approximately 130 maritime vessels of varying classifications and tonnage—was ultimately dispatched from the port of Lisbon under the auspices of King Philip II of Spain. The overarching objective of this naval assemblage, which incorporated a heterogeneous fleet including galleons, galleasses, and assorted auxiliary vessels, was to traverse the English Channel with the intent of effectuating the deposition of Queen Elizabeth I and thereby reinstating the dominion of Roman Catholic orthodoxy upon the British Isles.”
As he began writing on his whiteboard, Ernie bustled into the room.
“I’m sorry I’m late sir I overslept-” Ernie spluttered as the teacher cut him off.
“That is no excuse. Detention.”
“But sir- I ate some turkey yesterday and you know how turkey has tryptophan in it so it made me oversleep.”
The teacher approved and let him sit down.
After class, Jack went to the teacher.
“Ernie is lying,” he said.
WHY?
