The crafty chess cheater

There was a tense match of chess between Henry, the local chess wizard, and Ernie, the challenger.

Ernie started the game by proudly playing the worst opening possible, and promptly ‘sacrificed’ five pieces in a row(including his queen and rook) in the name of taking a pawn.

After a few contentious decisions and three threats from the challenger, he was unable to stop Henry from cornering him. In his magic trick, he conjured his queen out of thin air and declared it a stalemate.

After that he wiped out all Henry’s pieces on the table and declared he won because he had the most pieces remaining on the board.

As Jack surmised the result, Henry tried to talk chess with Ernie.

“So, which chess grandmaster do you like the most?”

“Umm, that fisher?”

“Bobby Fischer?”

Jack had figured out the result.

“The result is-”

WHAT?

That they tied. Ignoring Ernie’s interventions, there is no rule that the winner is the one with the most pieces.
