The Suspicious Science fair 2

Ernie was in trouble for faking his science project and so had to do it again.

Experiment Proposal: Testing Caffeine Content in Diffrent Materials

Introdution:

This experiment is to figure out how much caffeine is in things. Like, coffee, tea, and maybe even, uh, chocolate or soda? We know caffeine makes you awake but like, which one has the most? That’s what we’re gonna find out.

Objecitves:

  1. Find out which thing has the most caffeine.
    • Is it coffee? Or like, Red Bull? We’re not sure yet.
  2. Check if chocolate actually has a lot of caffeine cuz people keep saying dark chocolate has it, but is it really that much? We’ll find out.

Methadology:

  1. Gather Materials:
    • We will get some coffee, tea, soda (probably Coke), and dark chocolate. Also maybe some energy drinks like Monster or Red Bull if they’re on sale.
  2. Extract the Caffeine:
    • We’re not exactly sure how to do this, but we’re going to either soak the stuff in water or boil it, and then use one of those caffeine test strips we found online. Maybe we’ll look up how to use a spectrometer if we have time.
  3. Measure It:
    • We’ll take the caffeine numbers we get and compare them. If we can’t measure it exactly, we’ll just Google it and see if we can trust those results. We’ll try to write it down in milligrams but honestly any number works for the comparison.

Expected Resluts:

  • Coffee probably has the most caffeine, or maybe Red Bull? Tea will have less than both, but it depends if it’s green tea or black tea (we should check which one we bought).
  • Dark chocolate might have a surprising amount of caffeine, but probably not as much as coffee.
  • Soda has caffeine but not a lot, so we expect it to be last place in the rankings, unless it’s like, some strong energy drink soda.

Data Collecction:

  • We’ll collect the data, probably in a chart or something. We might need to convert the numbers to mg, but it should be fine. If something goes wrong, we’ll just eyeball it.

Discussion:

If coffee has more caffeine than Red Bull, then maybe coffee is the better energy drink? We’ll discuss if people should switch from energy drinks to coffee or vice versa. Also, if chocolate turns out to be super caffeinated, we’ll have to figure out if that makes it a good energy snack. The goal is to see which thing is best for getting energy fast.

Also, some materials, like tea, might be tricky because we hear that steeping time changes caffeine, so maybe we’ll steep it longer or just buy bottled iced tea and call it done.

Conclusion:

Caffeine is in coffee, tea, chocolate, and soda. Mostly in cffee, but some in chclate

Acknow… Aknolgedgment:

  • Thanks to the local grocery store for selling the coffee and tea we used, and also for the dark chocolate we “borrowed” from the office pantry (sorry about that).

Jack sighed.

Did Ernie think he was fooling him?

WHY?

FROM THE FILES OF JACK’S DETECTIVE AGENCY:

Ernie’s Project

Hypoths… Hipotheyses… Predictions:

We check… um… the tongue map?

Methidolgi:

Materials:

  • VarIety of foods with tAses (sweet… Sour… Bitter? )
  • Blindfld(Borrowed this frm the local costumes shop)
  • Cotton swabs
  • Timer

Procedure(we’re not really sure how to do this):

  1. Prepare the food: Select (take?) a variety of foods representing each of the five? six? basic tastes. Ensure they are distinct and easily identifiable.
  2. Blindfold the subject: Blindfold the participant.
  3. Apply the food: Using a spoon?, apply a small amount of each food to different areas of the subject’s tongue. Randomly select the areas to avoid any preconceived notions.
  4. Record the response: Ask the person to identify the taste of the food and record their response.
  5. Repeat: Repeat steps 3 and 4 multiple times with different foods and areas of the tongue

Results:

The tongue map works? We also found out I’m allergic.

Acknow… Aknolgedgment:

  • Thanks to the people who kindly left their shopping ingredients outside that we used, and also for the food we “borrowed” from the teacher’s lounge(sorry about that).

WHAT’S WRONG?
