The farmer
Farmer Clemney was a gentle and famous farmer. He always let children play in the meadow and he gave Jack and his friends carrots and potatoes. He only grew vegetables. His only fault was that he was the grandfather of Ernie.
Jack’s good friend, Stewart, ran a vegetable stand. One day, Stewart turned up at Jack’s house “Can you help me, please? I’ve got some competition for my fruit stand.” He explained.
Ernie’s gang set up a vegetable stand, said to be completely grown by Mr. Clemney and they set about bullying off other fruit and veg stands. He wanted Jack to help him. As they planted some more potato seeds, Jack was sweating in the hot sun. “Let’s go see what Ernie’s up to.” he said, eager to get out of the sun.
A load crowd gathered to buy farmer Clemney’s produce. “Ladies and gentlemen! Buy the finest vegetables you’ve ever see! Pepper! Spinach! Celery! Avocado! Rhubarb!” Ernie’s voice boomed.
“Stop!” shouted Jack. “The produce isn’t from Farmer Clemney’s farm! I know that because-”
Because what?
