Thunder

Thunder

Jack got onto the bus with his friend, Jim. It was getting dark. They had just gone to the movies.

“I can’t stop thinking about the gorilla… in King Kong, you know? It terrifies me.” Jim was shivering from anxiousness. Nonchalantly, Jack replied: “The nearest gorilla is about thirty miles away, in the London zoo. Anyway, it died last year, remember?” Jim nodded sceptically. “But what about that vampire in the castle? It looks real and scary to me.”

Again, Jack replied nonchalantly as they got off the bus. “The nearest castle is 20 miles away and it’s old and ruined; no one lives there anymore.”

Jim was still a little shaken.

“But what about those floating hands in that torture chamber. Jack? There’s been a lot of windows broken recently.”

Jack didn’t reply. A smashing was heard.

A bolt of lightning illuminated the street, showing two floating hands in front of them.

Jim screamed, Jack was calm.

“Hello Charlie.” said Jack. Charlie was part of a gang lead by a town bully, Ernie.

“Hello.” Charlie said gruffly.

“Sorry about the fright. I was walking by and I heard some smashing. I knew it was that window smasher. I didn’t want them to see me, and I heard the thunder. I know they’d see me with the lightning, so I pulled my jumper over my face and ran.”

Jack calmly asked: “Why did you smash those windows?”

How did Jack know?
